Phoenix Necklace

The myth of the Phoenix bird can be found in several cultures and countries throughout the world but the most common comes from Arabia. It is described as a bird with brilliant gold and crimson plumage and able to live more than 1000 years. Born from the ashes of the same fire that consumed it, the Phoenix has become a symbol of immortality, transformation and the sun.

The Phoenix Necklace, although not a literal depiction of a bird, was conceived with the legend in mind. The gemstone in the center of the pendent surrounded by gold rises out of the fiery gold center of the patterned bead. The bead can be viewed as an egg or the sun or the spreading wings of a bird. The birth of the Phoenix bird and the creation of jewelry are more closely related then one might think. Like the bird which is born out of fire, metal is refined through heat and flames in its molten stage. It is then made into a form, like sheet or wire, which can be worked by hand. Again a torch is taken to the metal during the soldering process and a beautiful piece of jewelry is brought to life.

In the Chinese version of the Phoenix myth, it is believed that jewelry incorporating the Phoenix design delineates the wearer as a person of high moral values and importance. In other cultures it is said to describe vision, virtue and grace.
